Hijabs are not purchases we make to wear once or twice and then throw at the back our wardrobes. But, that does become the case when they wear out or we aren’t maintaining them correctly.
The team at IMENE CO have sat together and discussed a few of our own personal tips as well as new tips to ensure your hijabs last longer with the same quality you initially purchased them in.
Here is what we have come up with:
Depending on the fabric of your hijab, the same washing machine rules apply. Most of us just throw in our hijabs into any washing machine mix but that is how they can end up losing the quality and colour. Treat your hijabs the way you’d treat your favourite blouse!
Be very careful when ironing your hijabs. One mistake with the iron and that’s the entire hijab ruined. Always make sure you start with the lowest temperature and know what fabric you’re dealing with.
General Rules for specific fabrics.
Jersey Hijabs are made out of cotton so you can use a medium temperature.
Cotton Hijabs are also cotton so again, you should use a medium temperature.
Georgette , Chiffon and Silk Hijabs however are very delicate when it comes to ironing so always ensure you iron them in a low temperature.
Cleaning foundation and perfume stains is easier than you thought… as long as you’re using the correct products. We find that the simplest of block soaps (literally Dove would do the trick) work amazingly. Just dampen the fabric and apply some of the soap onto the stain(s) and rub it until its removed. Rise it off, let it dry and watch your hijab come back to life!
Storing your hijabs is also key! There isn’t a single storage method which helps maintain hijabs but according to what you have you can figure it out. As long as they aren’t just being chucked at the back of your wardrobe or being stuffed into your draws, they’ll be just fine.
